[You find yourselves seated around a table in the middle of a small room. You can’t really perceive any walls, just heavy black velvet curtains on all sides. If you push them aside looking for a way out, you just keep finding more curtains behind them.

There is a crystal ball in the middle of the table and a spread of six large cards arranged around it, currently facedown. Their backs are a plain matte black.

You are aware that powers are all off for card rounds but will be on for the punishment round. You have whatever items are normally on your person.]

I...don't want to use the smothering card. None of them are good, I know. But that one's — no.

[quiet, for a moment]

I thought that one would be easiest to deal with, honestly.

But if we are trying to keep with low points, then it does leave us with the beholding and the heart-twisting curse. That's one for Rose and one for Daffodil.

Wait, wait. What makes it sound easier?

It just sounds like smothering. Even if it's momentarily a pain, I doubt a card with points this low would kill you. At worst you'd pass out from lack of oxygen. There aren't any lingering effects that we're aware of, so it just seems easiest. Mental options are going to linger. They're less physically painful but you have to deal with them for longer.

[ tapping his fingers on the table as he considers that ]

I hear that. It's just that...I've been choked enough times that I really hate the idea of doing that someone else. And it made it hard for me to go into the water for a while — with water breathing powers — so I dunno if I'd say it won't linger.

But I'd be willing to use it if you really think that's gonna be easier on someone else.

[shakes his head]

Nah. Ananke doesn't like it either. If there's any punishments that you're both uncomfortable with then I'm perfectly fine ruling them out. If we run into a situation where you can't handle any of them that's okay too. I can do all of them if I need to.

You know there's no way I'd ask you to do that, right?

You're not asking me to. It's usually my preference anyways. I don't like the idea of you guys dishing out punishments.

And I don't like the idea of putting it all on you.

[nods like he expected that]

Which is why I won't object if either of you want to volunteer. Just don't force yourself.

How about we agree to cross that bridge when we get there?

We don't even know what the punishments are yet, so honestly that makes the most sense. We can decide once we know what we have to do.

And we still haven't picked what we're going with this round, either. It was beholding, and heart-twisting; and Rose, and Daffodil, right? And the void card for Peony.

Ah, yeah. That's my preference if everyone else is okay with it. I guess we should pick which card which team gets. My guess is that beholding isn't physical, so we can do that one for Rose?

I thought so too, but Ananke thinks the heart one might be a better bet.

Hmm...well, it's kind of a coin toss either way. I don't mind which card we play on which team since I feel like the outcome will be similar. If we can't decide then just do a coin toss. Regardless of which one we pick for both of them, we can apologize later.

Yeah. Either way, it's still doing something to someone on both teams. I'm fine with doing whatever Ananke's more okay with.

Do you think it comes up often enough for Hallmark to have made a card for it? Besides, if you want to be heartfelt, then homemade is best.

I dunno, maybe one of the sheep sells cards in their shop. Enough happens around here that you'd think someone would've gotten in on that market.

Also, my homemade art isn't a gift to anyone, trust me.

I disagree. Homemade is still best. It's the effort that you put into it that counts!
