[You find yourselves seated around a table in the middle of a small room. You can’t really perceive any walls, just heavy black velvet curtains on all sides. If you push them aside looking for a way out, you just keep finding more curtains behind them.

There is a crystal ball in the middle of the table and a spread of six large cards arranged around it, currently facedown. Their backs are a plain matte black.

You are aware that powers are all off for card rounds but will be on for the punishment round. You have whatever items are normally on your person.]

Don't jinx it. I feel like I'm always reasonably pleased with how things go in the first round of a bad ritual, and then the second round ruins it entirely. I'm not going to let it change my approach, but I'm trying to keep my expectations low. We plan for the worst, which means having taiyaki and pancakes and piling into the pillow pit or the basement to watch cute movies that we won't really pay attention to.

That doesn't sound like such a bad afternoon.

It's usually not bad. Just...kinda heartsore.

[nods slowly, his brain sluggish to remember which ritual that even was]

I wouldn't say that. We don't have negative points yet. That's better than I was expecting.

Yeah, I meant about the bad rituals happening more often.

A guy named Styx wasn't into thinking positive?

He's the gruff and grumpy type. Although he'd probably be happy with how we're playing now. Maybe he'd let a little optimism into his life.

He's a good guy and I like him, but his personality is really bad!

He's the guy from the same place as Minuet and Flora, right?

That's him. You'd hardly know it if you stick all of them together. But they all lived very different lives from the sound of it.

Well, yeah, that makes sense. The world's a big place.
